About World in a Bowl
I have always enjoyed exploring cuisines from around the world, but after a long day at work, I did not want to figure out unfamiliar recipes, check whether I had the right ingredients, make extra trips to the store, or wash a mountain of dishes afterward.
As I cooked more, I noticed something interesting. Whether I was making Tom Yum soup, vegetarian chili, or minestrone, the fundamentals were remarkably similar. Build a flavorful base with aromatics, add vegetables and broth, then layer in the ingredients that give each cuisine its own identity—perhaps coconut milk, tamarind, tomatoes, miso or chilies, and finally end with some fresh herbs. The process stays familiar; a handful of signature ingredients give each dish the character of a different cuisine.
That realization became World in a Bowl.
The idea is simple: build a practical pantry once, shop for just a few additional ingredients each week, and use the same familiar cooking framework to explore cuisines from around the world. The goal is not to recreate restaurant dishes or turn you into a celebrity chef. It is to make exploring the world’s cuisines practical through flavorful, satisfying vegetarian meals that fit comfortably into everyday life.
